The purpose of this investigation is to explore the relationship between competitive professional 50m swimming time and some anthropometric characteristics in elite female Iranian swimmers to determine some effective features of these characteristics on their competitive result. For this purpose 13 female swimmers, all members of the Iranian national team, were studied. The age, weight, height, nine body lengths, five breadths, seven circumferences and three skin folds of these swimmers were determined. Based on these data, body composition and other indices, like the gluteal circumference related to height (GC/H) and body surface area (BS) were also assessed. These measurements along with the best time achieved by athlete were submitted to the discriminant correlation analysis. The time indicator correlated significantly with calf circumference, age, chest circumference, lean body weight, weight, shoulder circumference, body surface area and hand length (p<0.05).The presence of such significant correlations among the mentioned factors with the 50m competetive professional time, shows the importance of considering such indicators while choosing the sport talents at an early age.
