Abstract

A pot experiment was conducted to asses the effects of complete fertilizer as foliar application and N-fertilizer as soil amendment on the yield parameters of chamomile (Chamomila recutita cv. Goral). The experiment was arranged as a factorial design on the basis of completely randomized blocks with four replications. Ten chamomile seedlings were transplanted to each pot for each replication on December 4, 2007. The N-fertilizer was applied in the form of Urea™ (%46 nitrogen) at 0 (control), 2, 4, and 6 g/pot in three equal splits: at planting time, top dressing at the beginning of flowering and at the second harvest stage, respectively. The complete fertilizer supply was foliar sprayed at 0 (control), 2, and 4g/1000ml H2O, from transplanting until the end of growth stage for 4 times. Each pot was of 27×25 (h×d) cm. During flowering period, growth indexes such as plant and anthodia height, anthodia diameter, and flower dry weight, were all measured. Essential oil of dried flowers was extracted by hydro-distillation using Clevenger apparatus. Chamazulene content was determined using spectrophotometer at 610 nm. According to the results, flower dry weight, essential oil and chamazulene contents increased significantly (P<0.01) with increasing concentration of complete fertilizer. Also, the maximum plant height and anthodia diameters were obtained at 4g/pot Urea. The most flower dry weight (11.61 g/pot) obtained at 6 g/pot Urea™. Moreover, the maximum essential oil and chamazulene contents were obtained at 2 g/pot Urea™
