Abstract

Abstract Among the various steps of copper production, a lot of scrap is generated due to machining operations. This article describes Lost Carbonate Sintering (LCS) process for manufacturing open cell copper foam from copper turning chips. Porous Cu was fabricated by dissolution the filler materials from sintered copper chips. In addition the effect of addition Al powder in precursor for generation Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) for manufacturing Cu-Al2O3 composite was investigated. The relative densities, microstructure and compressive properties of the copper foams have been investigated for different metal weight fractions ranging from 40–80%.
