In sour gas treatment, due to preventing corrosion in pipelines and some serious problems, amine solutions used to remove the acidic gaseslikeH2S and CO2. These components are absorbed by the amine solution and stripped in amine regeneration. Other anions (contaminants)tie up the amine by forming Heat Stable Salts (HSS) which cannot be regenerated. HSS reduce the amine solution efficiency and promote corrosion and foaming problems in system. Therefore, the determination and separation of anions in amine solutions is very important. By using the analytical columns IC-PakA HR made by WATERS trade-mark and applying a method with appropriate condition for the IC column, it will be possible to determine all anions by Ion Chromatography. To remove anions in the amine solution used in Shahid Hashemi Nejad gas refinery, two different anion exchange resins are used in common. The results show that the initiative method can estimate the concentrations properly and both of the anion exchange resins adsorb the anions with high efficiency.
