In our model, we used two different doses of thallium follow by an early administration of chelating agent. Experiments were performed on seven weeks old Wistar male rats. Thallium at two doses of 20 µM (as low level drinking group) and 160 µM (as high level drinking group) of thallium (III) chloride were given to these animals.After 30 days of thallium administration, deferasirox and deferiprone chelation therapy was carried out after thallium application. During this time since thallium application, thallium toxicity symptoms gradually were appeared. After 30days, the first group was killed and their blood was taken by cardiac puncture. The serum iron concentration, total iron binding capacity (TIBC) and serum thallium concentration were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy (GF AAS).After this stage, chelation therapy was started. Deferasirox and deferipronewere given immediately after thallium application during two weeks. Also, the thallium and iron concentrations in blood were determined. Analyses were done by GF AAS and FAAS spectrometry.After chelation therapy, thallium levels considerably decreased, and TIBC and iron serum concentration returned to normal levels.
