Abstract

Weexaminetheeffectofself-gravityinarotatingthick-discequilibriuminthepresenceofadipolarmagneticfield.First,wefindaself-similarsolutionfornon-self-gravitatingdiscs.Thesolutionthatwehavefoundshowsthatthepressureanddensityequilibriumprofilesarestronglymodifiedbyaself-consistenttoroidalmagneticfield.Weintroducethreedimensionlessvariables,CB,CcandCt,whichindicatetherelativeimportanceoftoroidalcomponentofthemagneticfield(CB),andcentrifugal(Cc)andthermal(Ct)energywithrespecttothegravitationalpotentialenergyofthecentralobject.Westudytheeffectofeachoftheseonthestructureofthedisc.Secondly,weinvestigatetheeffectofself-gravityonthediscs;thus,weintroduceanotherdimensionlessvariable(Cg)whichshowstheimportanceofself-gravity.Wefindaself-similarsolutionfortheequationsofthesystem.Oursolutionshowsthatthestructureofthediscismodifiedbytheself-gravitationofthedisc,themagneticfieldofthecentralobjectandtheazimuthalvelocityofthegasdisc.Wefindthatself-gravityandmagnetismfromthecentralobjectcanchangethethicknessandtheshapeofthedisc.Weshowthatastheeffectofself-gravityincreasesthediscbecomesthinner.Wealsoshowthat,fordifferentvaluesofthestar’smagneticfieldandofthedisc’sazimuthalvelocity,thedisc’sshapeanditsdensityandpressureprofilesarestronglymodified.
