Abstract

Isothiosemicarbazones and their complexes have been attracting attention of the researchers, not only because of their interesting physicochemical and structural characteristics, but also because of the suitable applications in biological and analytical chemistry [1-3]. Bioactivity of thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes such as antitumor, cytotoxic, antifungal, antiviral and even anti-HIV effects, anticonvulsant, anti-malarial, anti-amoebic and antioxidant properties have been reported [2]. The tetradentate ligands with the N2O2 donor set and their metal complexes are of great importance in chemistry as they provide synthetic models for the metal-containing sites in metallo-proteins and metallo-enzymes and extensive catalytic and bioactive applications [3]. A tridentate NNO isothiosemicarbazone donor ligand has the ability to participate in reactions in either the mono- or bi-negative form. In the present paper, four new complexes of uranium(VI) ([UO2LS], S: EtOH, ethylene glycol, butanol) and copper(II) ([CuL(H2O)] (H2L: N1,N4-bis(3-methoxy-salicylidene)-S-allyl-thiosemicarbazide)) have been synthesized. The complexes were structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The U(VI) atom of the uranium complexes exists within a distorted pentagonal–pyramidal geometry where the oxide atoms occupy axial positions and the pentagonal plane is defined by the N2O2 atoms of the tetradentate Schiff base ligand and the O atom of the EtOH, ethylene glycol, butanol molecules in 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The Cu(II) atom in 4 is coordinated by two N and two O atoms of the dianionic tetradentate Schiff base ligand (H2L) and the terminal O atom of water. The N2O3 donor set defines square-pyramidal coordination geometry with the H2O in the apical site. References 1. R. Takjoo, J. T. Mague, A. Akbari, M. Ahmadi, J. Coord. Chem., 66, 2013, 1854. 2. N.
