Abstract

Increasing public attention to use natural and organic products and lower usage of chemical fertilizers and fungicides has led to more biofertilizer acceptance. Application of microorganisms such as Trichoderma rather than chemical fertilizers keeps environment more sustainable as well as improving plant growth aspects overall. Many Trichoderma strains are considered as bio control agents against plant diseases and their ability in plant growth enhancement and also root colonizing and extracellular enzyme production are well known. Fe is one of the most important elements in plant nutrition and many causes limit its uptake. Foliar spray could be a good solution in this problem. A factorial experiment based on a completely randomized design with Trichoderma at (65, Bi and control) and Fe at 4 levels (0, 0.75, 1.5 and 3 g L-1) in 3 replications were planned to study growth indexes of two ornamental plants namely Tradescantia sp. and Spathiphyllum sp. in greenhouse conditions. Results showed a significant increase with 65 and Bi strains in most qualitative and quantitative traits such as leaf number, leaf area, lateral shoot number and leaf chlorophyll content, carotenoid, anthocyanin and Fe).Fe and interaction between Trichoderma and Fe also increased some traits (leaf number, leaf area, leaf fresh weight and leaf carotenoid, Fe and K content) in Tradescantia sp. significantly.Trichoderma (65 and Bi) affected most of the measured indexes like leaf number, leaf area, sucker number, day to flowering and carotenoid, anthocyanin, Na, K, P and Fe noticeably. In addition similar results were observed for Fe and interaction between Trichoderma and Fe treatments.
