Rhodococcus erythropolis IGTS8 is effectively able to carry out the oxidative non-destructive desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT) , called 4S pathway, by resting cells . for preparing resting cells, initially effect of DBT concentration on the growth phase was studied and 10 ppm concentration of DBT was selected. Then, the most appropriate time for cell harvesting and maximum protein expression was found to be 55 hours from the inoculation time that is close to end of the exponential phase of growth. For biphasic reaction using resting cells, dibenzothiophene (DBT) as the recalcitrant model compound was dissolved in n-tetradecane as model organic solvent at the concentration of 50 ppm. Results showed that specific rate of product formation was 1.634 mmol 2HBP/DCW.h and reaction yield was 72.3%.
