Abstract

The photocatalytic activity of zinc sulfide (ZnS) nanoparticles (NPs) prepared under different conditions were compared for degradation of anionic dye reactive black 5 (RB5) in aqueous solutions under UV-light irradiation. In this work, ZnS NPs were successfully prepared under different conditions by choosing different ultrasonic irradiation time (0, 5, 30 min). The stability and reusability of the catalysts were examined. The results showed that the sample prepared by 30 min ultrasound irradiation can be used several times without changing its photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic degradation mechanism of RB5 was proposed using some techniques.
