Abstract

Abstract—Wind energy resources are the most attractive types of energy which continue to growth due to their benefits. So their penetration levels are highly increased. In variable speed wind energy conversion systems, the multilevel converters are the most promising devices. However, when the penetration level is increased the power quality can be a major concern. These systems introduce harmonics and power fluctuations which may deteriorate the power quality at PCC and hence violate the standard. in the present paper, an alternative configuration for multilevel converter is proposed which can provides a better performance regarding the power quality. converter applied to wind power plants are simulated in PSCAD environment and the results are presented. The performance and the validity of the superiority of the proposed converter is examined regarding the power quality.
