A two-dimensional sensitivity analysis using the finite element method is discussed. The factoring technique and Wang\'s method are applied to the same problem. Both plane stress and plane strain problems are solved in this paper. Although the same answers are obtained by both methods, it is shown that the factoring technique uses less computational time than Wang\'s method
