Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of truck transportation during heat stress on serum enzyme and mineral levels in dromedary camels. Five males and females were used. Blood samples were collected before loading, at 1 h, after unloading and 24 h after. Mean lactate dehydrogenase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, gammaglutamyl transferase, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper, zinc and selenium values did not change significantly. However, creatine kinase and aspartate aminotransferase activity increased. The results suggest that handling and preloading muscle stress may be responsible for the rise in these 2 enzymes.
