Abstract
MagnetiteFe3O4 nanoparticlesweresynthesizedbyaco-precipitationmethodatdifferentpHvalues. The productswerecharacterizedbyX-raydiffraction,Fouriertransforminfraredspectroscopy,and transmissionelectronicmicroscopy.Theirmagneticpropertieswereevaluatedonavibratingsample magnetometer.Theresultsshowthattheshapeoftheparticlesiscubicandtheyaresuperparamagnetic at roomtemperature.MagneticnanofluidswerepreparedbydispersingtheFe3O4 nanoparticlesin waterasabasefluidinthepresenceoftetramethylammoniumhydroxideasadispersant.Thethermal conductivityofthenanofluidswasmeasuredasafunctionofvolumefractionandtemperature.The results showthatthethermalconductivityratioofthenanofluidsincreaseswithincreasein temperatureandvolumefraction.Thehighestenhancementofthermalconductivitywas11.5%in the nanofluidof3vol%ofnanoparticlesat40 1C. Theexperimentalresultswerealsocomparedwiththe theoreticalmodels.
