Abstract

The purpose of this proposal is to analyze the correlates of students’ scientific activity at the Social Sciences Department, Ferdowsi university of Mashhad, Iran. The method was survey and 95 students were selected as representative sample from the total 400 students of the department using systematic random sampling. Results showed that 41.5% of the students had seldom or never consulted to their instructors, 53.7% had seldom or never asked questions, 74.5 % reported their works were not highly satisfied in the instructors view, and 23.2% reported they are unable to analyze issues scientifically good. Results also showed that dynamic scientific environment, interestedness to the discipline, scientific activity expectation from instructor’s side, and students’ attitude to the usefulness of the discipline were positively correlated to students’ scientific activity. The authors concluded that scientific community characteristics and inter relationships between students and instructors can increase students’ scientific activity.
