Abstract Self-confidence can be defined as the belief in one’s abilities to achieve success, and it often has been identified as a most important mental skill for a success in sport by individuals engaging in competitive sports, including athletes and coaches. This study examined the relationship between sources of sport confidence and sport confidence in young Iranian elite wrestlers. Participants were 148 elite wrestlers ages 17–20 years (M = 18.60, SD = 0.98) participating country championship in 2009 comprised and completed the sources of sport confidence questionnaire (SSCQ) and the sport confidence questionnaire (SCI). The SSCQ contains 41 items that represent nine sources of self-confidence in sport. The SCI contains 14 items that represent three types of sport- confidence. The data were analyzed by employing stepwise regression tests. The results showed that mastery was a good predictor of Sport confidence in physical skills and training (B=.466; T=6.713; P<.001), coaches’ leadership was a good predictor of Sport confidence in cognitive efficiency (B=.514; T=7.225; P<.001) and Social Support was a good predictor of Sport confidence in resilience (B=.279; T=3.622; P<.001). Generally, these research results supported the multidimensional Sport- Confidence Model by Vealey & Knight (2002).
