Abstract

a b s t r a c t In thiswork,wepresentatheoreticalstudyontheconductanceof trans-polyacetylene(trans-PA) nanowireinthepresenceofimpuritiesanduseof trans-PA asamolecularbridgesandwichedbetween two semi-infinitemetallicelectrodeswithasimplecubicstructureandsquarecrosssection.Weusea tight-bindingHamiltonianmodelwithintheframeworkofageneralizedGreen’sfunctiontechniqueand rely ontheLandauer–B ¨ utikkerformalismasthebasisforstudyingthecurrent–voltagecharacteristicof this system.Ourcalculationsindicatethatthepresenceofimpuritiesgivesrisetosignificant enhancementinthedensityofstateswithinthebandgapandlargeenhancementinconductanceand the current–voltagecharacteristic.Alsoourresultsshowthattheelectronicpropertiesofthesystemare sensitivetothemolecule-to-impuritycouplingstrength.
