Morphing Evolutionary Structural Optimization (MESO) is a soft-kill version of the Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO). This paper proposes a new performance index which is based on optimality criteria for monitoring the optimization process of the conventional MESO and also presents a quantitative verification of the MESO for some benchmark problems which have equality constraints. For some structures like Michell trusses, a qualitative verification of the ESO by showing the similarity of the ESO results with the optimum shapes has been already reflected in the literature. However, in this study, quantitative validation of the MESO method in the shape optimization is shown by comparing the results with the analytical solutions of problems. The results reveal a good convergence of the MESO method to optimum.
