Abstract

In a sequence of observations, a specific observation is called an upper (lower) record value if its value exceeds (falls) all previous observations. These type of data arise naturally in a variety of practical situations. In statistical inference they are also used in estimating unknown parameters of the underlying distribution. We study their performance in the sense of Pitman closeness. For some common distributions, exact expressions for the Pitman closeness of records are obtained.
