The objective of the present study was to evaluate the exposure to formaldehyde on pulmonary function tests of veterinary students in gross anatomy laboratory of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. Thirty students (15 male and 15 female) were selected and examined by pulmonary function tests in before and after gross anatomy dissection and some parameters such as: vital capacity (VC), forced vital capacity (FVC), peak expiratory flow (PEF) and forced expired volume in one second (FEV1) were measured and recorded. The data in before and after exposure for male and female students were analysed by two way ANOVA test usingthe SPSS statistics software. The results showed that, formaldehyde decreases pulmonary function tests in students and in all students FVC decreases after gross anatomy dissection. It decreases from 1.9090.39 to 1.7490.31 in boys and 1.6290.21 to 1.5890.31 in girls. By comparing of other parameters (PEF, VC and flow rate at 50% of measured VC (F50)) there were significant difference between boys and girls and in boys were more than girls (PB0.05). Also, there were no significant difference in interaction between sexes and exposures. By comparing of other parameters (FVC, FEV1, FEV (%), FER and F25) in boys and girls, three were no significant difference.
