The activities of the essential oils of Menthae piperita and Foeniculum vulgar were investigated against Rhizopus stolinefera. The antifungal activities of the essential oils were evaluated by disc diffusion method on PDA medium. Essential oils applied in 5 levels, included 0 (as control), 0.125, 0.25, 0.375 and 0.5 %. The results showed that the essential oil of both plants affected the growth of Rhizopus under in-vitro conditions. Rhizopus sopres in control treatment filled the petridish medium on second day of experiment, but essential oils treatments in some levels inhibited and in others decreased the growth of Rhizopus. Essential oil of fennel was more effective in comparison of peppermint and control treatments. Furthermore, the study suggests that these essential oils can be used as preservatives in foods.
