Abstract
A field experiment conducted on the effect of plant spacing in two levels (30 and 40 cm) and mulch color in three levels (blue, red and bare soil) on yield and profitability of summer squash (cv. Rada). The results indicated that there were significant effects on yield and growth characteristics of summer squash. The highest fresh yield of squash obtained from the red mulching with two plant spacing, then in blue mulch with 30 cm spacing and others were lowest and there were not significantly influenced together. As a result, plants in dense populations were taller than those at lower densities. Highest root length, leaf area, was observed in blue mulch because temperature under mulch was low. Amount of far-red light reflected from neighboring plants increased at higher planting densities affecting assimilate partitioning.
