Abstract
Nematodes cause severe damage to faba bean in many countries. Pratylenchus species are major pests of this crop in the Mediterranean basin. There is no information about root lesion nematodes associated with faba bean fields in Iran. Therefore, surveys were conducted during 2011- 2012 to determine the plant parasitic nematodes of the genus Pratylenchus on this crop in Khuzestan province, south-west of Iran. Root and soil samples were collected and examined associated with faba bean fields. Nematodes were extracted, fixed and transferred to glycerin using common methods. The permanent slides were prepared from the extracted nematodes. The root lesion nematodes were identified by using morphological and morphometrical characters. In this study, seven species of Pratylenchus were identified as follows: P. crassi, P. delattrei, P. neglectus, P. scribneri, P. teres, P. thornei and P. zeae. All species extracted during this study are reported for the first time in association with faba bean in Iran. P. crassi and P. teres are two known species new for nematode fauna of Iran.
