Abstract
Aluminum–matrix composites(AMCs)havethepotentialtoofferdesirablepropertiessuitablefor numerous applicationsinaerospace,automobile,andmilitaryindustries.Inthiswork,Al6061/Al2O3 nanocomposites withdifferentAl2O3 weightpercentage0.5,1and1.5wt%werefabricatedbythe developed stir-castingprocess.Thenanocompositeswerethenextrudedat550 1C. Mechanicaltest results indicatedthatinas-caststate,tensileandcompressionstrengthincreasedwhileductility decreased withincreasingparticlecontent.Theextrusionprocesseffectivelycausedtheimprovementof mechanical propertiesandductilityespeciallyinthenanocompositeswithhighpercentageof reinforcement.Moreover,fracturesurfaceresultsshowedthatinas-caststate,compositesrepresent interdendriticfracturemodewhileinextrudedconditiontheyrepresentamixedmodeincludingductile and brittlefracture.
