Abstract

Abstract Drama and dramatic arts have always attracted students. It has one single and specific quality, and that is performance on the stage. In teaching drama and dramatic features to EFL students, performance and role-playing can be a very powerful tool in the hands of the teachers. The writer of this article has used performance, in teaching dramatic features, dramatic terms and plays. Two drama classes and their ninety students were chosen for this research and each class was considered as a separate group. The students of these two drama classes were also considered as controlling and experimental groups. In the first class, the students were given the plays and were just asked to read them. In the second drama class, the students were asked to read the plays exactly and were arranged into groups of performers. Then, they were asked to perform the chosen role for each of them as well. The findings of the research show that, having a role to perform has helped the students to learn dramatic features, dramatic terms and plays better than the first group.
