Abstract

In this work, bismuth sulfide (Bi2S3) film was formed by pulsed sonoelectrodeposition (Pulsed SED) technique on the substrate. The prepared Bi2S3 film was characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). Bi2S3 film was also formed by pulsed electrodeposition (PED) without applying ultrasound. Comparison of Pulsed SED and PED methods confirmed that the ultrasound affected the morphology of film due to production of cavitation, micro jets and acoustic streaming. Ultrasound decreased double layer thickness in electrodeposition (ED) and facilitated the diffusion of ions from bulk to electrode surface and formed dendrite like structures. Bi2S3 film was used for photocatalytic reduction of Cr (VI) in an aqueous solution. The film prepared by Pulsed SED had better performance for reduction of Cr (VI) to Cr (III) than film obtained from PED method. In addition, Bi2S3 film prepared by pulsed SED with fractional morphologies showed a high stability in successive runs.
