Abstract
In the present study, the effect of changing the car seat properties to decrease the neck injury of car passengers passing the urban bumps is studied. For this reason, several different usual urban bumps are considered, and their geometries are found. The excitation frequencies of each bump are obtained, and their effect on the dynamic response of the neck and head is investigated. It is shown that the head and neck receive an essential part of the applied shock by the road bumps. The effects of using a seat cushion as the easiest way to change the car seat dynamic properties for decreasing neck injury are studied. For this purpose, a simple cushion and a cushion with back support are considered. It has been shown that the so-called back support cushion can decrease the shock applied to the neck and head better than the simple cushion. It can be concluded that the proposed back support cushion can improve the quality of driving for car drivers, especially those who drive for long times.
