Authors: Amir Yoosefi , Fayyaz Gharaei ,
Abstract
This article undertakes a comprehensive examination of the concept of nothingness and its profound implications as the origin of the world, as elucidated by two influential mystics—one from the 13th century AD and the other from approximately the 4th century BC. Employing a comparative approach, this study analyzes how these mystics employ the term -nothingness- in their respective works. Lao Tzu utilizes expressions such as nameless and faceless, while Mawlavi Rumi employs terms such as nothing and formless. This article delves into the methodologies employed by these mystics to convey the existence of nothingness or Tao. From an ontological perspective, it critically evaluates the distinct relation between existence and nothingness, and relation between nothingness and beings. Furthermore, it scrutinizes the role of negative theology and presents a nuanced interpretation of this theological approach, elucidating how it integrates with the teachings of these prominent figures.
