Abstract
Bagasse is one major fibrous byproduct resulting from the cleaning, preparing, and extracting sugar process from the shredded cane which constitutes about 30 to 35% of the sugarcane’s weight, and is usually used to produce animal feed. Massive bagasse piles are prone to spontaneous combustion and are a source of environmental pollution. Since, in this study, the risk of equipment failure in the animal feed production line has been assessed to accelerate the conversion of bagasse and reduce the risk of fire. In this study, a combination of VIKOR, SWARA, VIMUN, and ROC methods was used to evaluate FMEA. In the sugarcane bagasse pellet plant, the hydraulic nut of the flat pelleting press (Qi = 0.26), the start and stop of the exhaust fan dryer (Qi = 0.33), and the electric motor of the boiler (Qi = 0.36) were the riskiest failure factors that should be prioritized based on VIMUN–ROC–VIKOR method. Given the potential applications of the suggested approach, preventive maintenance planning and scheduling can be recommended to lessen the occurrence of the failure and then components’ stoppage and the fire risk of bagasse large stockpiles.
