The current paper aims at investigating Fractional Hamiltonian Equations for a class of fractional optimal control problems with time delay. Furthermore, we introduce a method to solve the resulting two boundary values problem (TBVP) by extending Agrawal’s fractional variational method in (Nonlinear Dyn. 38:323-337, 2004) and using Bernstein polynomials (BPs). In this paper we use the Caputo fractional derivative of order α where 0 < α < 1. Some numerical examples are included to demonstrate the validity of the present method.
