Title : Integrating Duaa Arafaa and Other Shiite Teachings into Psychotherapy. In C. York Al-Karam (Ed.), Is
Any form of therapy is embedded within a specific ontological and epistemological system where modes of knowing and nature of existence are already defined and explicated. This chapter argues that Islamic based psychology may be positioned within a distinct paradigm with its own productive implications. A spiritually integrated psychotherapy with Muslims may also be placed within this overall holistic Islamic system that operates based on the principles and premises that ultimately share common views and perspectives with the original structural reference points of an Islamic school of thought. The chapter discusses one of so many viable interventions inspired in the heart of an Islamic-based psychology. Spiritually integrated psychotherapy with Muslims requires a solid understanding of the Islamic culture and the Islamic perspective as a leading doctrine with significant prescriptive and proscriptive implications. In addition, the therapist needs to be familiar with the cultural contexts and subcontexts. Understanding the underlying elements of the clients\\\' affective, associative, and marginal meanings and their embodiments in their cultural configuration would help the therapist apply the right techniques in different context.
