Abstract
The primary approach used for reducing weeds in wheat fields is the application of broadleaf-selective herbicides, which could have important implications for the arthropod community in this crop. the objective of this study was to identify the influence of herbicides on abundance of aphidophagous hoverflies as well as aphids in wheat fields. to do this, a 20-ha wheat field was divided into 6 equal sized plots. a broadleaf selective herbicide was applieed to 3 of these, and the other 3 plots were not treated with herbicide. weekly sampling of aphids and hoverflies for 8 weeks showed a greater number of both group of insects in untreated plots. it os not clear , however, that these can be explained by differences in the density and diversity of weeds.
