A Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The Conventional Dielectric Waveguide Model (CDWM) and a numerical method based on the Finite Element Method (FEM) are utilised to calculate the radiation characteristics of the antenna. The results are presented and compared with those obtained by experiments. It is concluded that the CDWM can be used for a first order estimation of the antenna parameters, but more accurate results can be obtained using the FEM for radiation patterns.
