Abstract

ABSTRACT In this paper the influence of engine parameters on second law turbocharger efficiency is experimentally investigated. The analysis has been performed by means of a four stroke, four cylinders turbocharged diesel engine and tests have been carried out in constant speed with different loads. In this work exhaust species were measured and exergy flow of exhaust and turbine power output has been calculated. Then turbocharger second law efficiency calculated. The results show that turbine inlet pressure and engine speed are the two engine parameters that have higher sensitivity on the turbocharger second law efficiency. Although the experimental investigation are for steady state conditions but because of little effect of boost pressure on these parameters in transient period, it seems that higher turbine inlet pressure and higher engine speed are the two steady state engine parameters that could improve second law turbocharger efficiency, this causes overcoming in inertia problem in turbocharger transient condition.
