Progress during the last decades in our understanding of the mechanisms underlying protective immunity, has opened the possibility to apply this knowledge in new approaches for the development of vaccines. In this regard, cytotechnology has played a major role to get more insight into the fundamental mechanisms as well as developing necessary tools to deliver bench experience to real practice. Cytotechnological approaches have greatly contributed in developing new generation of vaccines by dissecting cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in protective immunity. Among them are DNA, Peptide and gene knockout vaccines. Infectious diseases continue to be a global health problem and are the cause of tremendous morbidity and mortality every year. Attempts to create an effective and protective vaccine have been a high global health priority. New generation of vaccines using modern cellular and molecular technology has helped to create the valuable tools to combat such health problems. In addition to review current approaches in the field of vaccinology research, in this presentation, studies that were conducted in two different models of vaccine developments namely; the generation of genetically engineered plasmodium that are growth impaired as a means to create live attenuated parasites against malaria and development and evaluation of peptide vaccine components against foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) will be discussed.
