Abstract
Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO) method is very simple for using in a computer code and has been applied to some topology and shape optimization problems successfully. For some structures like Michel trusses, a qualitative validation has already presented in the literature by showing the similarity of the ESO results with the optimum shapes. There hasn’t been presented any precise theoretical base or mathematical proof for convergence of ESO to optimum solution yet. This paper, however, demonstrates convergence and quantitative validation of the Morphing ESO (MESO) results for some problems by comparing them with the global optimum. These problems are finding the optimum shapes of beams subjected to some loads while there exists a displacement constraint. Rectangular beams with height varying and width varying have been considered in this study.
