Lobe pump is one of the positive displacement rotary pumps and is widely used in industries. The most important challenges in design and manufacturing of these pumps is the rotor profile synthesis which is very complicated and dependent on many different parameters. In this paper we present a new synthesis procedure for lobe pumps design with respect to required flowrate functions. A dimensionless flowrate expression, called the “specific flowrate”, is used in our pump synthesis. This specific flowrate depends only on the pitch and deviation functions of the pump rotor, and is independent of the individual pump size and pumping frequency. Then, based on the desired flowrate function, the corresponding deviation function is derived and the real pump size and rotor profiles are calculated. Finally, as an illustration, a sample lobe profiles with circular pitch and typical flowrate function is designed.
