Abstract

A 3D transient numerical model for the simulation of a laser cladding process is developed. The model is based on the enthalpy method integrated into Volume-of-Fluid algorithm. The developed model takes into account the laser scan speed, the feed rate of the powder being supplied and the surface tension to estimate the clad geometry. Simulations have been performed based on the physical governing equations namely the Navier Stokes and energy equations. The model is capable of predicting the clad height, width and depth with reasonable accuracy.
