Title : ( Bioethics and Animal Cloning )
Authors: GHOLAMREZA HASHEMI TABAR ,Abstract
Bioethics is now understood as the ethics of modern biotechnology. One of the issues in bioethics is cloning, which is the technique of producing a genetically identical duplicate of an organism. Cloning is divided into animal and also human cloning and in this paper animal cloning will be discussed because of genetically modifying mammals could be quick and cheap. At the present time, introducing genes into mammals is laborious and expensive, so the technique is only used for research and to create animals that yield high-value medical products. Now, genetically modified (GM) mammals are usually made by injecting naked DNA directly into an egg, although the success is extremely low. For getting one GM animal, a skilled technician has to carry out dozens of injections and then implant the resulting embryos. The successful cloning of an adult sheep, Dolly, opened up a new chapter in the field of animal cloning which attracted worldwide debate and it was the first cloning of a mammal from an adult cell. Scientist started to evaluate the idea of cloning endangered species to increases their population. But the demise of the Dolly recently has resulted in deep speculations over the future of cloning as a whole and human cloning in particular. The critics from various spheres, scientists legal experts are busily responding to the news by either disproving the fears or some others raising alarms about the prospect of cloning a human being. In this paper bioethics and animal cloning will be discussed in details.
