Abstract
The radial wave propagation and dynamic behavior of thick hollow cylinders subjected to mechanical impact loading is studied using a general analytical method base on a composition of Bessel functions. The cylinder is assumed in plane strain and axisymmetry conditions. The equation of motion in cylindrical coordinate is solved by a composition of first and second kind of Bessel functions. The general elasticity solution of radial displacements, hoop and radial stresses are obtained for various thickness of cylinder to analyze the dynamic behaviors and time history of radial displacement and stresses. The elastic radial wave phenomenon in thick hollow cylinder is modeled using presented analytical method and the velocity of elastic radial wave propagation is obtained and compared to published data. A good agreement can be seen in the comparison.
