Abstract
This article has aimed to show that religious travel reinforces cultural communication between religious communities. The survey undertaken in Mashad,Iran on a sample of 598 pilgrims from four nation of Iraq,Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Bahrain resulted in that two characteristics of religious travel including the travel duration and previous travels leaves a significant effect on cultural communication (pilgrim-host cultural and communal relationships). However that language barrier limits cultural communication but does not make it impossible. As the research shows when language barrier is controlled, the effect of travel on communal and cultural relationships remains significant and positive. This finding indicates the role of religion in creating different kinds of social ties between adherents of a religion in different societies and that religious tourism play a critical role in this process
