Abstract
Shape optimization of natural frequency problems is an interesting and important subject which has received much attention in recent years. One of the frequently used methods in this field is the Morphing Evolutionary Structural Optimization (MESO) which is a soft-kill version of Evolutionary Structural Optimization (ESO). Only few researchers have investigated the quantitative verification of the ESO-based methods. In addition, no mathematical foundations for the convergence of the ESO-based methods to optimum solution have been presented yet. Using a new performance index based on the optimality criteria, this paper presents a quantita-tive verification of the MESO method for some structural elements. In this study, quantitative verification of the MESO method is shown by comparing the obtained results with the analyti-cal solutions of problems. It is observed that the MESO and analytical results are in a good agreement.
