Abstract
In the present article, the dynamic analysis and radial wave propagation phenomenon of stress field in a functionally graded thick hollow cylinder subjected to sudden unloading (as a mechanical shock loading) are stochastically studied using combined Galerkin finite element (with linear functionally graded elements) and Newmark finite difference methods. The FG cylinder is divided to many sub-cylinders whose mechanical properties vary as a linear function of radius. The functionally graded properties across thickness of FG cylinder are created by suitable arrangement of linear functionally graded layers (sub-cylinders). The constitutive mechanical properties of FGMs are considered uncertain variables, which are generated as random variables with deterministic mean values and various coefficients of variables (COV) with Gaussian distribution. The effects of various values of COV on time histories of stresses and radial stress wave propagation across thickness of FG cylinders are discussed for various grading patterns of mechanical properties in FGMs. The comparison of presented results with published data on previous literatures shows a good agreement between them.
