Visible andnearinfraredspectroscopic(Vis/NIRS)techniqueshaveshownpromiseasrapid and non-destructivetoolstoevaluatethevariousinternalqualityattributesoffruitsand vegetables. Theobjectiveofthisstudywastodevelopacalibrationmodelforpredictionof soluble solidscontentandacidity(pH)ofkiwifruitbyusingvisibleandnearinfrared spectroscopyandchemometrics.Thetransmissionspectraofkiwifruitwereobtainedin the wavelengthrangefrom400to1000nm.Theeffectsofdifferentpre-processingmethods and spectratreatments,suchasstandardnormalvariatetransformation(SNV),multipli- cative scattercorrection(MSC),andmedianfilterandfirstderivative(D1) wereanalysed. The predictionmodelsweredevelopedbyprincipalcomponentanalysis(PCA)andpartial least squareregression(PLS).ThecorrelationcoefficientforsolublesolidscontentandpH were 0.93,0.943androotmeansquareerrorofprediction(RMSEP)was0.259Brix and0.076, respectively.TheseresultswereachievedwhenSNVwasutilisedinconjunctionwith median filterandfirstderivative.ThisshowedthecapabilityofVis/NIRSandtheimportant role ofchemometricsindevelopingaccuratemodelsforthepredictionofkiwifruitinternal quality characteristics.
