Abstract
In thepresentstudy,micellar-enhancedultrafiltration(MEUF)wasusedtoremoveZn2+ from synthetic wastewater bythespiral-woundultrafiltrationmembrane.Theeffectsofdifferentoperatingconditions on theseparationperformanceofmembranewereinvestigated.Itwasfoundthatthetransmembrane pressure hasthelargestinfluenceonthepermeateflux,butithasnegligibleeffectontherejection coefficient. Furthermore,sodiumdodecylsulfate(SDS)feedconcentrations,SDS–Brij35mixedmicelles concentration andsolutionpHhaveamajorinfluenceontherejectioncoefficientandnegativeeffecton the permeatefluxduetoconcentrationpolarizationlayerformation.Also,theresultsshowedthatthe permeate fluxandremovalefficiencyofzincbyanionicsurfactant(SDS)–MEUFdependsontheligand- to-Zn2+ ratio extremely.Ingeneral,MEUFbyspiral-woundultrafiltrationmembranehasgoodrejectionof Zn2+under differentoperatingconditions,astherejectionswerehigherthan98.0%.However,application of singleanionicsurfactantatrelativelylowconcentrationismoreefficientthanmixedsurfactantsand MEUF wasnotpracticalwhenthewastewaterisintensivelyacidic.
