Simultaneous interpreting (SI) is a complex language activity which imposes anxiety and stress on interpreters; however, little empirical work has been undertaken to identify the sources of anxiety in SI in the face of recent advances in applied linguistic research which have paid attention to affection as an important variable which affects language use. To obtain a better understanding of the sources of anxiety pertaining to the SI, we designed a semi-structured interview and administered it to three expert simultaneous interpreters. Based on the interviews, three general domains of anxiety were identified i.e., environmental, personal, and interpersonal.
