Abstract
In this paper a single element Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) and an array of 3-elements DRA fed by Dielectric Image Line (DIL) through a narrow slot is numerically investigated for a particular resonator. For the single element, antenna gain and backward radiation is obtained 7.7 dB and -4 dB respectively at 10 GHz. Also for the array structure, the simulated gain is 10.2 dB, while maximum back lobe is -8 dB. To increase the antenna gain, four sidewalls are placed around the corner of the ground and a reflector is sited at the back side of the array structure. Results show that the modified DRA array provides 11 dB gain with a maximum backward radiation of -12 dB. Radiation performance of the antennas including return loss, radiation patterns, and gain versus frequency are reported.
