Accurate crop simulation models are important tools in evaluating the effects of water deficits on crop yield or productivity and to optimize irrigation under limited available water for enhanced sustainability and profitable production. To generate the wheat yield response to applied water irrigation (AIW) in southern Iran, Ahvaz, we employed the AquaCrop model. Model calibration and validation were performed by using three experiments conducted in the region. The results showed that AquaCrop accurately simulated the yield response to AIW. The model was also used to determine the optimum water management strategies under several climatic scenarios for wheat (Triticum aestivum l.). The results revealed that the highest grain yield could be obtained with AIW values between 150 and 300 mm depending on climatic scenario and crop growth stage.
