a b s t r a c t Eu3+ ion dopedchlorophosphateglassceramicscontainingnanocrystalsweresuccessfullyprepared, and theirspectroscopiccharacterizationsweredoneusingabsorption,excitationandemissionspectra. For thecrystallizedsamples,X-raydiffraction(XRD)andtransmissionelectronmicroscopy(TEM) experimentsevidencedtheformationofCaCl2 nanocrystals.Theabsorptionandemissionspectra investigationsindicatethataconsiderableamountofEu3+ ions wastrappedinCaCl2 nanocrystals,and thereforeanefficientup-anddown-frequencyconversionwasobserved.Thecomparativespectro- scopicstudiesofEu3+ dopedsamplessuggestthattheinvestigatedglassceramicssystemsare potentiallyapplicableasfrequency-conversionphotonicsdevices. & 2010 ElsevierB.V.Allrightsreserved.
