Abstract
In this paper one dimensional transient gas flow through a pipeline which is connected to a reservoir and suddenly is opened to a lower ambient pressure was solved by explicit MacCormak’s Technique to simulate pressure disturbance propagation and pressure fluctuations at ruptured high pressure pipelines. These disturbances and fluctuations in pressure can be used for impact analysis of pipelines, Hazard analysis and computation of gas release rate from pipes which are suddenly failed. The results of this analysis show that after accidental rupture in pipelines some disturbances will appear in pressure and other flow variables which will propagate through pipeline and will be reflected back after reaching the high pressure reservoir tank, upstream valve or ruptured area.
